Are Your Relationships Increasing Your Happiness?

Surrounding yourself with positive relationships can totally change your mood, your perspective and your personal happiness. Here are ten of my favorite things to do to build positive relationships with my friends and improve their lives as well.

  1. Call one person I care about every morning and see how they are doing.
Many friends and family members don’t volunteer their burdens, but giving them a call to check on them and provide support increases their mood and my mood.

  2. Mail something nice to someone in need.
This someone can be a person that I know or someone that I saw online that needed a helping hand. There are always many ways to get involved in mailing letters or cards to cheer people up, whether they are veterans or family members.
  3. Host a dinner party and invite people who increase your personal happiness.
Encourage your friends to get to know one another and form additional positive relationships.
  4. Pay for plane or train tickets for someone that I love to come visit me.
This is a costlier option, but it really shows your level of commitment to the relationship and how much you care about the other person.
  5. Form a bridge between someone I care about and a resource that they need.
This could be offering a job to a friend or helping them when they need to go car shopping. Even small trips can increase personal happiness tenfold.
  6. Invite a friend I haven’t seen in a while out to lunch or dinner.
This is a great way to strengthen relationships and enjoy a necessary meal in the process.
  7. Give someone that I love a gift card to a place that they enjoy.
Gift cards for a local coffee shop or restaurant are a great way to show that you care without investing too much money.
  8. Extend an invitation to someone you love to go on vacation.
The vacation can be a weekend trip or a fun “stay-cation” designed to build your relationship and get a break from the hustle and bustle.
  9. Make an afternoon to visit someone that you haven’t seen in a long time.
A short visit to an old friend to see how they are doing can brighten both of your days.
  10. Remove anyone who is negative or unkind from my social media and contacts lists.
This step can greatly increase your personal happiness.

What are some of the ways that you can increase your personal happiness through investing (or removing) yourself from relationships?
