Happy Kids Make Their Own Money

When it comes to finding true happiness in life, it comes in not only earning your happiness, but appreciating the  process of earning it. We value what we earn more than what is given freely to us, or what comes easily. This is true for people of all ages, even the very young.

Teach kids from a young age the value of earning what they want, so that as they grow up, they are not shocked into major growing pains when it comes time to make their own way.

There is a huge difference between the type of people who work hard to reach their goals, and those who have no sense of goal-oriented achievement. The first group tends to be better adjusted and more confident than the second.

There are a number of ways to teach this to kids at a young age, and one involves having them earn the what they want rather than handing it over right away. Of course it is the job of a parent to see to it that a child’s safety, emotional, and practical needs are met, but it is not the job of a parent to cater to a child’s every whim. Rather than handing them everything they want, teach them ways to earn money, so that they can get things on their own.

Some of these ways to earn money can include car washing and feeding pets, which teaches children skills that they will need later, and will help them develop a healthy sense of responsibility with animals. Depending on the age of your kids, you can also have them help you set up a Facebook account or email account. They could show you how to take pictures with your phone and send them to your computer, or set up your DVR and show you how to use it. Ask them to show you where the channels are on your cable box, show you how to set up your Pinterest account, and have them find sites that meet with your interests and needs.

No matter which method you choose, you must choose duties that your children can actually perform, and can perform regularly. This way they get a sense of structure and order, which is very important for healthy development. It is also important that you keep your end of the deal and pay them what was promised. Helping to create a strong work ethic will mean teaching your child to create his or her own happiness in the long run.  This will prove to be invaluable.
